How different would the world be if every senior had a sharp mind, mental clarity and could contribute to society until their last day of life? How different would their families be if every senior maintained their independence?
People laugh and joke about old age and how it is normal to lose all types of functions. It seems that along with hearing and eyesight seniors expect to lose their flexibility, posture and balance. They also suffer from sexual dysfunction, indigestion, constipation, insomnia, incontinence, blood pressure and blood sugar problems, just to name a few. Memory loss accelerates to dementia that destroys the quality of life for the “victim” and the “caregivers” alike.
Why do some people in their 90s and even 100s enjoy a good memory while others start to deteriorate in their 50s and 60s? Could it be the result of something that happens to their body?
Research estimates that 10-20% of dementia is chemically induced or caused. The drugs that can help save a life can also have drastic side effects. Ultimately a person’s ability to process out the toxic effects of the chemicals is what makes the difference. Clearly if every person who received general anesthesia suffered a terrible side effect, then it would not be used.
On December 3, 2007 a lady who described herself as Sherrie, heartbroken daughter, posted on the Alzheimer’s Association website.
“ANESTHESIA IS CAUSING DEMENTIA, PLEASE HELP ME!”
She told the tragically sad story of how her father’s memory rapidly began to decline after his first surgery in 2005. He began hallucinating and talking to imaginary people. His doctors diagnosed him with depression. Then after a second surgery in 2006 his mental function went downhill. He was then put on meds for A.D. (Alzheimer’s Disease)
She desperately started doing research to find the connection between anesthesia and his dementia. She wrote “THEN I discover that the Psychotic drugs used to treat A.D. can actually make this dementia WORSE! My dad was taking Numenda and Arisept!!!!”
In just 2.5 years after 2 surgeries where both required general anesthesia her dad went from being able to think clearly, to not knowing who or where he was. She was so devastated that she shared her painful story on the internet. Over 100 people have posted similar stories of how anesthesia devastated their family member as well. All of this on the official Alzheimer’s Association website.
Research studies show that general anesthesia saturates the entire brain. There is evidence that the tangles, or brain damage found in Alzheimer’s, are also caused by general anesthesia exposure. In the picture below the fuzzy balls in the Alzheimer cells picture are what the tangles look like. You will notice there are no fuzzy balls in the healthy cells picture.
The effects of general anesthesia should wear off in a couple days. Some people regain their mental clarity and resume their life as if nothing happened. Others are groggy, can’t think clearly or worse, and now have a new diagnosis called POCD- Post Operative Cognitive Decline.
The human body has natural detoxification process that recognize a toxin, target it and remove it. This process is called biotransformation. The body biotransforms a toxin into a neutral substance and releases it via the urine or feces. It is a simple system, but when it fails to do its job there can be a big loss of normal function.
If you suspect that general anesthesia has affected you or someone you know, you will want to check out the video demonstrating my toxicity scan and explains how I can help.
